The New 2017 Subaru Outback Crossover SUV Will Always Be Old Bridge's Iconic Wagon

As one of the only crossovers on the market to arrive with all-wheel drive as standard equipment, the 2017 Subaru Outback has been bucking trends and revolutionizing SUV performance for decades. Offering legendary capability at a practical price, this well-equipped crossover gives you the chance to embrace the great outdoors on the weekend--but also cruise in comfort on your morning commute Monday through Friday.

From its standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive to its fold-away roof rails, this new Subaru Outback is everything you could want in a capable utility vehicle--and more.

The new model carries over many of its traits from the previous model-year--the stunning new grille design, strong curves, and a four-trim model lineup that gives you a variety of options for versatility and power. The Outback 2.5i, 2.5i Premium, and the Outback 2.5i Limited come standard with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder BOXER engine, with 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque; the powerful Outback 3.6R Limited offers a robust 3.6-liter 6-cylinder engine, with 256 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque. New for 2017, the Subaru Outback Touring brings a luxurious new twist to this classic, offering opulent leather upholstery, sleeker roof rails, trim-specific wheels, a heated steering wheel, and your choice of four-cylinder or six-cylinder engine.

All models give you the freedom of easy cargo storage and equipment transportation, with 35.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, and up to 73.3 cubic feet of storage with seats folded. Thanks to the long wagon-back style, this vehicle can accommodate cargo and gear that other crossovers simply can't. And, with standard and available features like Bluetooth audio streaming, STARLINK infotainment and navigation, leather upholstery and heated seats, and optional EyeSight safety suite, the newest Subaru Outback gives you  more ways to connect, access, travel, and enjoy your life.

What's New for the 2017 Outback vs 2016 Outback?

Since the Outback was completely redesigned just two MY ago, the 2017 Outback doesn't introduce any wild changes to the body, frame, exterior, or even the cabin. What it does do, however, is make small changes to subtly important aspects of this legendary wagon.

The most major change for the new model comes in the form of the exclusive and luxurious Outback 2.5i Touring and Outback 3.6R Touring trims, with a new "Brilliant Brown" exterior color, and features like "Java Brown" perforated leather-trimmed upholstery, stylish contrasting ivory stitching, and--a first for the model and for the lineup--a standard heated steering wheel. The new signature design is complemented well by wood-grain finishes in the cabin, piano-black accents, and Java Brown leather on the door panels and armrests. The roof rails are sleeker on the new model, and Touring trims offer a unique wheel design to help set your vehicle apart even more.

This provides an even wider variety of options for this already versatile wagon.

Other, less exciting, changes include a safer type of A/C refrigerant that's more in line with Subaru's commitment to the environment, and a larger range of safety features. For the first time on the Outback, select models now offer Reverse Automatic Braking along with Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and High Beam Assist.
